Eligibility Check

Who is Eligible?

The Michigan Home Help Program is a Medicaid-funded in-home care program. Eligibility is mainly based on active Michigan Medicaid and the need for hands-on help with daily activities at home.

A care recipient may qualify if they have active Michigan Medicaid, live in Michigan, and need physical assistance with daily living tasks while living at home or in a community setting.

Important Note

When someone may not qualify

Home Help services generally cannot start if the person does not meet Medicaid and functional need requirements.

  • No active Medicaid or not eligible for Medicaid
  • Only needs verbal reminders or supervision without hands-on help
  • Living in a nursing home or institutional facility
  • No functional limitations with Activities of Daily Living
Caregiver Eligibility

Who can become a caregiver?

A caregiver may be a trusted family member, relative, friend, neighbor, or another person selected by the participant, as long as program requirements are met.

Caregiver applicants may need to meet requirements such as:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Have a valid Social Security Number or Tax Identification Number
  • Complete CHAMPS provider enrollment
  • Pass required screening and verification checks
  • Be chosen and approved by the Home Help participant
